CVHS Dance

Congratulations to CV Dance Company!

Note from Mrs. Grimes-

I just wanted to do a shout out to our CV Dance Company. This last weekend we participated in the Utah High School Dance Festival. (UHSDF, is like our state competition) This is for all 1A-6A schools including performing arts high schools in Utah. Over 40 schools were in attendance. Our dancers did amazing! There is a scholarship class that is offered for dancers to get scholarships for universities or professional companies that give a summer intensive training program. Only 5 dancers from each school are allowed to participate in the scholarship class. Dancers participate in ballet, jazz and modern dance style classes taught by different professors, while university and dance company representatives watch. Several of our dancers have already received scholarship offers and department placements from these auditions, with more coming in.

The dancers are also able to participate in master classes all weekend as well as be adjudicated. Our dancers are allowed to take two dance ensemble dances to be adjudicated (judged) for feedback and given scoring. There are 10 categories that the dances must meet and one of the dances must be student choreographed. Multiple judges give each category a score for each dance. The average of all of the scores, from each judge, for both dances are then given as a final overall ranking as well. Both of our ensemble dances received straight superiors and an overall ranking of Superior. Out of all of the schools in attendance only a few Superiors are awarded. This is not an easy thing to accomplish and our dancers have been able to do this for several years in a row. I could not be more proud of their hard work and commitment to each other and the ability to tell a story through dance not only through the movement quality but in what they create.

At the awards ceremony several dances that the judges select are awarded the outstanding student choreography award. There were only 9 dances awarded at our awards ceremony and our student dance was one of the dances awarded! The choreographers for this dance are  Sabrina Gordon & Ava Knudsen.

Outstanding student awards for each school are also awarded and our student was Sabrina Gordon. Dancers that qualify and have accomplished the requirements for the National Dance Education Organization - National Honor Society for Dance Arts were also listed in the program and all but one (because she did not apply) of our dancers in attendance were on the list.

Here is a list of the dancers in attendance if you get a minute to congratulate them, I know they would love that.

Keziah Chappell, Aleah Condie, Ashlyn Condie, Lyla Davis, Hannah Ferree, Gavin Gardiner, Gwendaline Gardiner, Sabrina Gordon, Elle Haymond, Ava Knudsen, Ava Rowley, Maggie Smith
